Rupert LaMontagne's "Girl Band" Editorial For HYPEBAE Is an Ode to Hedi Slimane
The Canadian photographer presents our inaugural band series.
Those well acquainted with Rupert LaMontagne’s photographs understand there’s a connection between the model and viewer. The photographer’s intimate POV centers around each shot – you come to understand his sincere gaze with one glance. That same LaMontagne signature can be said about our new HYPEBAE-exclusive “Girl Band” editorial series.
He mused: “The inspiration behind this was Hedi Slimane’s on-going Rock Diary and girl bands/artists like Warpaint, Grimes, etc.”
Part one counts muses Anne, Adèle, Juliette, Louise, Mira, Rebecca and Teodora. Photographed inside two music studios in Montreal – Rama Studios and Cité 2000 – the editorial was all about edge and youth subculture.
Teodora leads the girl gang in a Death band merch T-shirt and the rock ‘n’ roll mood plays on with a Raised by Wolves “Black Sabbath” hoodie and Undercover “Blurred Woman” T-shirt. There’s no rebellious sentiment without a little Vetements – cue the ”Total Fucking Darkness” hooded sweatshirt and “Big Daddy” baseball cap. Footwear looks to Maison Margiela’s brown leather Tabi boots and a color break is made on an Opening Ceremony Deutschland Global Varsity bomber.
