LOL, IKEA Wants You to Know Balenciaga's Tote Is NOT the "Real Deal"
The Swedish furniture company strikes back with satire.
In most cases, responses to copycats often wind up in lawsuits, but IKEA is choosing to err on the side of humor. Earlier this month, Balenciaga released what is basically a super expensive knockoff of the Swedish company’s iconic FRAKTA tote — Demna Gvaslia’s is $2,150 USD and the original is $1 USD — and now IKEA has officially issued a response.
There are no legal documents here. Instead, IKEA released a satirical ad with instructions on how to spot the “real deal”:
1. SHAKE IT. If it rustles, it’s the real deal.
2. MULTIFUNCTIONAL. It can carry hockey gear, bricks, and even water.
3. THROW IT IN THE DIRT. A true FRAKTA is simply rinsed off with a garden hose when dirty.
4. PRICE TAG. Only $0.99.
