#WCW: Asia Kate Dillon Is the Gender-Bending Babe You Need to Know
The ‘Billions’ star talks to WWD about their gender non-binary identity.
Dressed in Raf Simons and Saint Laurent suiting for their WWD editorial, Billions break-out star Asia Kate Dillon may at the surface seem like any androgynous star. However, the Orange Is The New Black actress represents much more than that. Dillon’s character on Billions is the first non-binary character portrayed in a major network program and the actress also identifies as gender non-conforming, choosing to use the pronouns they, theirs and them. As the 32-year-old Dillon explains:
“When I read the breakdown for Taylor and it said ‘female non-binary,’ and I looked up those words, I had a light-bulb moment. For the first time, I understood that gender identity and assigned sex are two different things. And sometimes they conform and sometimes they don’t. Up until that moment I hadn’t understood that I could’ve been assigned female at birth, but that didn’t automatically make me a girl or a woman. And that light-bulb moment was really extraordinary and very freeing.”
