KITH x adidas Soccer Have Designed Stylish Sportswear That Actually Performs
“This is proper football gear, but with great edge and attitude brought from New York City.”
As a monumental step forward for the NYC-based retailer, KITH has teamed up with adidas Soccer on a new collection of professional-level soccer gear that looks as good off the field as it does on. Inspired by a conversation with soccer star Florencia Galarza – the captain of KITH’s soccer team, the Cobras – KITH founder Ronnie Fieg decided to explore and showcase New York’s growing soccer culture. Galarza was also the one who introduced Sam Handy, the creative director of adidas Soccer, to the Cobras – Three Stripes became the official sponsor of the Cobras soon after.
“It’s a pretty unexpected thing for KITH to do, collaborating with the performance part of a sportswear brand, instead of the lifestyle side,” Handy told Vogue. “We’re sort of bending the rules and challenging what high performance can do. This is proper football gear, but with great edge and attitude brought from New York City.”
In fact, Fieg is quick to point out that the items in the collection are the same grade as a professional A1 soccer club’s. “We wanted to do something adidas had never done before, and find our niche in the market,” Fieg explains. “Usually, in our [streetwear] market, we’re associated with basketball. But we’re seeing a shift now, with a lot more kids playing soccer today than a few years ago. And not only that, but these are stylish kids. They’re sports customers but they also live and breathe the lifestyle of KITH.”
The KITH x adidas Soccer collection is slated to drop on June 2 at KITH’s New York and Miami stores, at the KITH shop in Bergdorf Goodman, and online at kith.com.
