Let’s face it: throwback fashion is never going to go out of style. From the short-lived resurgence of bell-bottom jeans from the ’70s, to the ongoing nostalgia of bucket hats and chokers from the ’90s, fashion’s favorite way to look forward is often to look back. Building on the growing popularity of club kid culture in recent collections – such as Versus Versace’s 2018 resort program and Eytys’ Magaluf! photography series – we’ve teamed up with photographer Polina Vinogradova for a “tomboy” editorial that draws on inspiration from hip-hop styles of the early 2000s.
Pushing the boundaries of what may be considered “feminine,” Polina and stylist Caroline Harbro explore a balance of both oversized and form-fitting silhouettes. From a millennial pink bralet to a white workwear-inspired canvas jacket from Carhartt WIP, the looks pay homage to the strong women of hip-hop that first began experimenting with closing the gender gap. Other brands that you’ll find in the photo set include Levi’s, Missoni, Isabel Marant, Lærke Andersen, Weekday and more. Check out the full editorial in the gallery above.
