SZA Lets It All Go on Her Debut Album, 'CTRL'
It’s SZA season.
TDE’s first lady SZA has released a follow-up project to 2014’s Z. Fans have been primed and prepped following her steamy video for “Love Galore” featuring Houston rapper Travis Scott. The 14-track album is a rejection of the control that she’s been seeking her entire life. In an interview with The Breakfast Club she shares:
“I’ve lacked control my whole life and I think I’ve craved it my whole life. I couldn’t really arrive at it and now, I’m not really looking to arrive at it anymore. I’m just happy to be present. It’s weird. If you try to control a future moment, it’s impossible. There’s no such thing as control anyway. It’s just a concept, a word, a fantasy.”
Barring a few essential features the songstress goes it alone as she unravels her life story. She recruits labelmate Kendrick Lamar on “Doves in the Wind” where she asks for more from a reluctant lover. SZA pulls her fans deeper into her insecurities and misgivings in her relatable rhapsodies.
