OFF-WHITE's Virgil Abloh Is Getting His Own Retrospective
The show will explore the relationship between his brand and millennials.
Just three years into its inception, OFF-WHITE has already reached a cult-favorite status within the streetwear community. From the logo-covered Industrial Belt to the unconventionally cool Binder Clip Bag, Virgil Abloh has created one coveted piece after another. And now, the 36-year-old designer confirms that he’ll be getting his own retrospective.
Set to launch in 2019, Abloh’s exhibition will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. In addition to featuring the many designs of the OFF-WHITE helmer, the show will also explore the relationship between his brand and today’s young generation.
The designer explains in an interview:
There is a lot of thought behind how I got here, and the museum recognised that there’s something deeper behind how I came to be. If you focus on the brand, that’s interesting, but we intend to look at the 950 projects I have done, to then reflect on what it says about the millennial culture.
Stay tuned for more updates on the exhibit. In the meantime, take a look at the alleged collaboration between Abloh and IKEA.
