SSENSE Explores Facebook Culture in Latest Balenciaga "Big Data" Editorial

The dark side of the Internet – but still, major closet envy.

For SSENSE‘s latest editorial, the Montreal-based e-tailer explores the unsettling concept of data-driven psychoanalysis through a narrative constructed with Balenciaga pieces. As explained in its introduction, the editorial entitled “Big Data” reports that a mathematical profiling system derived from gathering Facebook activity and smartphone data is capable of essentially divulging to researchers a subject’s ”secret self,” one unbeknownst even to that person’s closest family and friends. Building on this unnerving notion, photographer Tim Gutt captures a voyeuristic journey in which the viewer seems to oscillate between the roles of subject and observer.

You can view the editorial above, which features key pieces from Demna Gvasalia‘s latest collection, including the infamous velvet thigh-high boots in hot pink.
