Naomi Scott Will Play Princess Jasmine in 'Aladdin' Live-Action Remake
But not everyone is happy with that.
After months of auditions, Disney has finally unveiled the cast for its upcoming Aladdin live-action remake. Over the weekend, the animation studio announced that it has tapped Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud to play Aladdin, and Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott to play Princess Jasmine. And don’t forget about Genie — the magical creature will be played by Will Smith.
While most people on the Internet are happy about Disney’s choice of actors for the upcoming film, some aren’t exactly pleased that Scott gets casted as Jasmine. As the movie’s casting notices for Aladdin and Jasmine specified that “these characters are Middle Eastern,” many are confused as to why the House of Mouse hires a white and part-Indian actress as the female lead. Check out the tweets below to see what some has to say.
