As Apple‘s September Keynote address draws near, we see yet another iPhone 8 rumor. This time around, the subject of speculation is the wireless charger that will supposedly be introduced with the forthcoming phone’s release. However, we now receive word via Apple expert John Gruber that the station might actually be sold separately from the device itself.
In addition, leaked images of the wireless charger have surfaced on Chinese social media platform Weibo. As the accessory’s name suggests, the iPhone 8 will allow users to top up their power supply simply by placing it on an inductive surface. It has also been rumored that the charger terminals may also be compatible with the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus.
Tech heads should note though that the wireless charging function has not yet been officially be confirmed by Apple. However, Robert Hwang – chief executive of Apple supply chain company Wistron – divulged earlier this year that, “new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit.” The iPhone 8 is also expected to highlight new features such as an OLED screen, facial recognition, edge-to-edge display and the removal of the home button.
