Instagram Rolls out Shopping Feature Directly on Stories

Proving the influence of online retailers.

3.0K

Instagram has officially introduced another new feature that’ll for sure become a hit among fashion lovers. Now on the app, users are able to purchase items with shoppable tags, the little shopping bag sticker in Instagram Stories. After clicking on the tag, shoppers will find out more information on the item or accessory. The details provided will also provide a direct path for individuals to purchase the pieces.

Tech Crunch reports that back in 2016, Instagram tested out the feature with only 20 partners. Jewelry brands and countless luxury online retailers have utilized the shoppable tags since it launched two years ago. The current Stories expansion provides an interactive way for the platform to drive direct sales.

In a press release, Instagram broke down why this feature is relevant for its dedicated users:

“With 300M using Instagram Stories everyday, people are increasingly finding new products from brands they love. In a recent survey, Instagrammers said they often watch stories to stay in-the-know with brands they’re interested in, get an insider view of products they like, and find out about new products that are relevant to them.”
