Including the Glossier Flagship, Chanel’s beauty atelier and the interactive Bite Beauty Lip Lab.

Beauty lovers know that New York City is the best place to find any product imaginable. Home to a plethora of unique stores including encyclopedic outposts stocking cult favorites, interactive makeup experiences and Instagram-friendly brand flagships, the city makes it simple to find your next go-to product. From tried and true favorites to buzzy new brands, everything and anything beauty-related is just a subway stop away.

Whether you’re looking to refresh your makeup bag or simply get inspired, read on for seven of the most unique beauty stores in New York City including the Glossier Flagship, Bite Beauty Lip Lab and oo35mm.

Atelier Beauté Chanel

A luxurious step-by-step shopping experience, Atelier Beauté Chanel immerses visitors in the brand’s extensive makeup range. The stark, mirrored space greets customers with lockers to stow their personal belongings, preparing them to get hands-on. The first of several specialized sections in the store is Cleanse, where customers can try out Chanel‘s range of cleansers and toners. Other stations, organized by product type, allow visitors to browse and experiment with lipstick, eyeshadow and perfume. Chanel beauty experts are also on hand for a range of personalized skincare and makeup services, as well as in-house recommendations.

Bite Beauty Lip Lab

Boasting two locations, one in SoHo and the other in Williamsburg, Bite Beauty‘s Lip Lab allows visitors to create an entirely bespoke lipstick. The appointment-only service walks customers through the lipstick creation process, from mixing pigments for the perfect shade to selecting the finish — choose between creme, matte, sheer and deluxe — and adding flavor (options include cherry, mint, vanilla, citrus, mango, violet or superfruit). A candy shop for beauty junkies, the Lip Lab is outfitted with glass cases displaying pigment pots ready to be combined for infinite color combinations. Bite Beauty, known for using only food-grade ingredients, opened its first Lip Lab in 2012 as an experimental pop-up. After unprecedented demand, the brand decided to make the experience a permanent fixture. Services start at $60 USD.

Dior Backstage Beauty Boutique

Dior‘s very first makeup boutique, located at the Westfield World Trade Center shopping mall, opened in 2016 following the publication of Dior: The Art of Color, a compendium of work by the brand’s current and former beauty artistic directors. The neon-accented space is meant to channel the backstage energy of a runway show with six work stations where on-hand makeup artists can work their magic. Visitors can also try out digital activations such as Mix & Match, a video screen table that changes a model’s nail and lip color when a lipstick or nail polish is placed on top. An additional area dedicated to fragrance allows for customers to further experiment.

Glossier Flagship and Showroom

One of the buzziest names in beauty, Glossier opened a showroom in New York City back in 2016 and in 2018, rebranded it as the Glossier Flagship. Years later, the Instagram-ready space continues to regularly boast down-the-block lines. Manned by a gaggle of pink jumpsuit-clad employees, the store allows visitors to test out the brand’s range of skincare and makeup products, including its colorful Play line. With the help of showroom assistants, shoppers place orders digitally and pick up their pink-packaged haul once it’s delivered to a checkout counter via conveyer belt.

New London Pharmacy

A New York City fixture since 1960, New London Pharmacy takes a wellness-based approach to beauty. Aiming to combine traditional medical services, homeopathy and natural remedies for a holistic experience, the store stocks an exhaustive list of skincare brands including Bioderma, La Roche Posay and The Ordinary. Fragranced offerings by Boy Smells, Malin + Goetz and Marc Jacobs are sold alongside makeup by Kevyn Aucoin, Rodin and RMS Beauty. In addition to the store’s extensive roster of products, an in-house nutritionist offers private consultations.

Stocking cult Asian brands harder to find the U.S. including Etude House, Dolly Wink, Hada Labo and Mizon, the store is a perfect spot to discover new products. For the less adventurous, oo35mm also stocks The Ordinary, Cosrx and Shiseido.
