Netflix Partakes in Meme Culture With Racy Viral Tweet
A funny or misguided attempt to connect with Millennials?
Netflix has garnered over 136,000 likes on its recent tweet referencing a meme that originated on Twitter back in November. Netflix’s viral riff, which poses the question “what’s something you can say during sex but also when you manage a brand twitter account?,” has garnered thousands of responses from companies including Hot Pockets (“nice hot pocket”), Paramount Network (“I’m not sure we want to touch this.”) and Ben & Jerry’s (“Do you wanna take a lick?”).
Netflix’s tweet is a risqué attempt to connect with the company’s Millennial audience, who also coined the term “Netflix and chill.” Hopefully Netflix won’t regret its unorthodox marketing strategy — in July, adidas UK suffered a slew of Twitter users hacking its social media campaign promoting Arsenal jerseys.
