Sephora and L'Oréal Are Among the Most Innovative Beauty Companies of 2020

According to an annual report by ‘Fast Company.’

Fast Company has released its annual list of the world’s most innovative beauty companies, this year naming retail giant Sephora, French conglomerate L’Oréal and clean makeup brand Beautycounter among honorees for 2020.

Beautycounter tops the list at number one for its commitment to using nontoxic ingredients. The company also works to make the clean beauty category more ethical — last year, Beautycounter released a short Youtube documentary on mica, commonly included in shimmery products, and the child labor often involved in its mining.

L’Oréal ranks third for investing in diversity, as evidenced by recently launched shade-inclusive sub-brand, Made For All All by Maybelline, and a nail polish collaboration with Jonathan Van Ness of Queer Eye. Sephora comes in at number six for pioneering experiential beauty with events such as Sephoria, the retailer’s take on the burgeoning beauty festival genre.

Also included in the Fast Company‘s list are virtual spa and salon receptionist Mindbody, personal care brand Bravo Sierra and Revair, a hairdryer that flips the script and vacuum-suctions water out of hair.

Check out the full list of the Fast Company’s most innovative beauty companies of 2020 below, and head to the Fast Company website for the lowdown on each honoree.
