Lil Miquela Becomes First CGI Influencer to Sign With CAA
The avatar continues to blur the line between physical and virtual reality.
Lil Miquela, the CGI avatar-influencer created by Los Angeles-based entertainment company Brud, has signed with prestigious talent agency CAA. The news marks CAA’s first partnership with a virtual client. According to Variety, the agency will work with Lil Miquela in areas including TV, film, brand strategy and commercial endorsements.
Brud launched the Lil Miquela avatar on Instagram back in 2016. Since then, the freckled, impeccably-dressed character has attracted hordes of fans (she boasts over 2 million followers) and partnerships with fashion powerhouses including Prada, Calvin Klein and Givenchy.
Miquela even has a music career — though it’s unknown who voices her singles, the virtual influencer has recorded several solo tracks and recently collaborated with Teyana Taylor. Further blurring the line between virtual and physical reality, Miquela boasts a clique of fellow avatar friends and even dated a real-life model, Nick, represented by New York agency St. Claire Modeling.
A statement by CAA Global Client Strategy Executive Adam Friedman seems to hint at a future Lil Miquela movie. “We are excited to jump in and help her navigate the world of television and film, and also see a unique opportunity for innovative, forward-thinking brands to align with a culturally relevant, icon-in-the-making,” he said.
