Gold & Pearls Are This Year's Hottest Jewelry Trends, According to Lyst
Harry Styles is named one of the most influential stars to set off the trend.
Following reports on sustainability and fashion in the first quarter, Lyst has now released a new list of trends and keywords in the jewelry industry. Titled “Virtual Window Shopping: Jewelry 2020,” the report highlights various aspects of the year so far, including the “new normal” lifestyle that has taken over our daily routine.
An analysis of online shopping behavior of more than nine million shoppers a month across 12,000 brands and retailers, the report is broken down into five highlight topics. One keyword of the year is gold, with 68 percent of shoppers searching for gold items like hoop earrings, which have seen a 51 percent spike in searches over the past 12 months. The surge in demand comes from various sources such as celebrities including Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid. Chunky gold necklaces were also a hit, with demands rising 113 percent year-on-year. Another keyword is pearls, which have seen a significant rise for men’s jewelry. The trend follows Harry Styles‘ appearance in a pearl necklace last year, leading to a 67 percent increase in pageviews for freshwater pearls since January.
With working and studying via video calls becoming the new norm, demand for pieces such as oversized drop earrings, chokers and crystal pendants increased 225 percent year-on-year collectively. Sustainability is another rising factor, with keywords like “sustainable,” “ethical” and “recycled” being used more in searches.
