Mateus Debuts New Ceramic Collection Dubbed "The Rendevouz"
Meet the brand fusing traditional Portuguese craftsmanship with contemporary Swedish design.
Ceramic label Mateus was founded in 1993 by Portuguese/Swedish designer Teresa Mateus Lundahl, basing the brand on fusing traditional Portuguese ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary Swedish design and fashion trends. Since 2014, the brand has been a mother-daughter duo, looking to create quality tableware and keep its history alive. Now, Mateus is launching its new collection “Stripes” under a new concept dubbed “The Rendevouz.”
“I want to share the unique sense of joy you get when you let your table become a creation of your own personal expression. Like each collection in Mateus assortment, Stripes is easily mixed and matched to reflect one’s personality and bring a unique attitude to the table,” says Filippa Burenstam Linder, daughter of founder Teresa. The new collection pays homage to all the meetings and moments that are shared around a table, and takes inspiration from 60s-like design.
Chanelling both color and design, the pieces weave together attitude and sophistication, and allow for fun self-expression through ceramics and homeware. In addition to the pieces themselves, “The Rendevouz” features three accompanying films capturing important moments, investigating what happens when people share food. The first film is titled “The Breakfast,” and introduces the new collection and concept through video, created through Mateus creative brand agency FWB. “The Rendevouz is created to be daring and play around with norms and conventions surrounding food culture. Through a creative angle, we want to manifest the importance and intensity in people sharing a meal,” explains Tommy Guldstrand, Chief Creative Officer at the agency.
The Stripes collection is available now online at the Mateus website, with the first video from “The Rendevouz” series also available to watch. Stay tuned as the other two installments are set to release in the near future.
