TikTok Kicks off Its Very Own Fashion Month This Season

Featuring runway shows, styling sessions, virtual online parties and more.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, Fashion Month is slated to kick off with a shortened, and largely digitized, New York Fashion Week schedule. While many brands are anticipated to showcase virtual presentations for the Spring/Summer 2021 season, video platform TikTok has kicked off its very own series of fashion weeks.

TikTok swiftly took over the Internet towards the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, reaching its peak as most people were encouraged to stay home. The social media app gave birth to numerous trends like the #HarryStylesCardigan, serving as an accessible platform for emerging creatives. According to WWD, the company aims to become a fashion destination with its newest project by showcasing online runway shows, tutorials, parties and more for a month. “We’ve seen the fashion industry reinvent what luxury fashion means to culture and society through TikTok by bringing fashion into the homes of our community during quarantine,” the app’s fashion content partnerships lead CeCe Vu shared in a statement. Numerous designers will be taking part, including Saint Laurent hosting its runway show on the platform and JW Anderson unveiling its new collection. Additionally, users will indulge in more fashion content in the form of styling lessons run by influencers.

While the month-long schedule has already begun, the schedule will be leading up to an event dubbed “Runway Odyssey,” a virtual fashion runway livestream hosted by TikToker Nick Tangorra and featuring PUMA and Alice + Olivia. The athletic label will be revealing an exclusive collection that highlights Black creators and designers such as Winnie Harlow and Makayla.

Rounding off the virtual Fashion Month will be an online after party accompanied by hashtags like #TikTokFashionMonth, #GetTheLook and #Fashion101. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled on TikTok to witness a completely different Fashion Month this season.
