adidas Teams Up With Artist Shantell Martin on Customizable Superstar
Available at adidas’ MakerLab in New York City, where visitors can create bespoke gear.
adidas‘ latest collaboration, a team-up with British artist Shantell Martin, is taking a hands-on approach. The brand is inviting customers to its newly launched MakerLab, a brick-and-mortar store in New York City‘s Times Square where shoppers can customize their very own sneakers and apparel with a series of designs Martin created specifically for the project.
Guests will be able to apply these designs via embroidery, vinyl transfer, sublimation and stencil to a range of footwear — including the signature Superstar — and apparel. “The three different designs speak to many moments, moments that are here to stay, here to change the present and the future, and here to be seen and acknowledged,” Martin said of the line drawings she created for adidas. “The work at its core is a celebration of women and the Black experience, and to the future where the barriers we face today will no longer exist,” she added of the initiative, produced by creative agency Harley & Co.
The Shantell Martin x adidas MakerLab is open on the second floor of the JD Flagship in Times Square, New York City through March 17.
