Nike Outlines Year-Round Plan to Support Latinx and Hispanic Communities

Community activations, thoughtful product and more.

During the L’Attitude Conference in Miami, President and CEO of Nike Inc. John Donahoe took the stage to detail plans to support Latinx and Hispanic communities beyond Hispanic Heritage Month.

“The Latino community plays a critical role in shaping the future of Nike’s business and the future of sport. Our commitment to engage and serve the community is not limited to a day or month, it is year-round,” says Donahoe. “It starts from within, through investment in building a diverse and dynamic workforce that fuels design innovation, and extends outward through authentic collaborations and inclusive community programming that cultivate our future generation of leaders.”

Donahoe also debuted the Nike “La Familia” collection, comprised of a Nike Air Force 1 Low and Nike Air Trainer. According to a press release, “The ‘La Familia’ collection will be accompanied by authentic stories celebrating Latina athletes, their distinctive cultures, and their families – with the hope of inspiring girls who come from the same community to participate in sport.”

The campaign lives up to the statement, highlighting Paralympic volleyball player Nicky Nieves, six-time national champion and WBC amateur champion Chantel Navarro and roller skater Kimberly Zuniga.

The Nike Air Trainer 1 “Somos Familia” is available now via Nike for $140 USD while the now sold-out Nike Air Force 1 “Familia” released October 1 and can be found on resale sites from $106 – $200 USD.
