Honey Birdette's Campaign Embraces 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Carmen Carrera
The first trans model to appear in the brand’s advertising efforts.
Honey Birdette‘s new campaign titled “Butts & Boots” features Carmen Carrera, the first transgender model to appear in one of the brand’s advertising efforts. Renowned for appearing in RuPaul’s Drag Race, the star is seen riding a mechanical bull in a West Hollywood saloon, donning the label’s signature designs.
“I think the Honey Birdette girl is sexually empowered, loves herself and her body — and that’s how I feel too,” Carrera said. Lingerie boasting interwoven straps, leather and translucent floral lace appear in form-fitting silhouettes, perfectly hugging her lithe figure. As a result of the campaign, the Drag Race star hopes that the experiences of trans people will continue to be portrayed in mainstream media, to which she states: “I’m an out and visible trans person, and I’m treated like any other woman. I’m living my best life and I’m happy and healthy, so I would like to see those things reflected on television and in movies.”
