Melissa Debuts Y2K-Inspired "Real Jelly" Collection

The 2000s jelly sandals trend makes a comeback.

Melissa, the Brazilian footwear and accessories label, has dropped its most Y2K collection to date. Dubbed “Real Jelly,” the range transports us back to the 2000s when jelly sandals were a must-have fashion piece.

The collection is focused on the slogan “We made the first Melissa. You made it original,” celebrating the brand that initially developed the jelly shoe. Comprised of 10 styles, the lineup features sandals, heels and handbags all dressed in iconic jelly material, which is created using 100% recyclable PVC with up to 30% recycled material. Standouts include the original Melissa Possession in bright colorways, as well as the Airbubble Platform, Bridgitte and Bubble Flip Flops. With an added tech element, each shoe comes with a QR code embedded in the insoles that directs the wearer to an Instagram filter.

“Jelly is in our DNA. In addition to fashion, our products carry attitude. It’s not about a moment in history when something happened, it’s about the legacy. We change the way the world sees plastic shoes. We made the first jelly shoes, and the fans made them original,” Melissa’s general manager Raquel Scherer says in a press release.

Celebrating the launch, Melissa has also prepared a conceptual installation at its store in Soho, New York. Peep the campaign images above and see more from the range below. The “Real Jelly” collection is now available online and in stores.
