Aesop’s Free Queer Library Celebrates LGBTQIA+ Authors
Featuring authors including Alok Vaid-Menon, Paul Tran and more.
In support of the LGBTQIA+ community, skincare brand Aesop has devoted its stores in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto to amplifying queer voices and stories. Returning for a second year, Aesop Queer Library is an initiative that replaces the brands products with books by LGBTQIA+ authors. This is what allyship is all about, delivering autonomy, funding and resources back to the community, and we’re here for it.
Many of this year’s books were purchased from two queer bookstores: BookWoman in Austin, Texas and Glad Day in Toronto, Canada, with others being donated by Penguin Random House. The books for this year’s library were selected by Aesop’s LGBTQIA2S+ community, Prism. “After launching nine Queer Libraries across five countries and giving away over 35,000 books to visitors in 2021, Aesop is proud to announce the launch of the second iteration of the Queer Libraries, which will see us share even more stories from the community, alongside providing new opportunities to explore queer creativity in its various forms, from a wide range of voices,” Nelson Derry, Aesop’s Head of Culture, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion shared in a press release.
If you’re in need of new books, we’ve rounded up a few of this year’s best reads for you to check out. Keep reading for more.
