Lauryn Evarts Bosstick Isn't Your Average Boss Babe

The Skinny Confidential founder subverts stereotypes.

With the arrival of the “that girl” trend on TikTok and Cassie Howard’s infamously manic 4 a.m. routine, ice rolling has become a staple in our skincare routine. If you’re a fan of the relaxing and de-puffing technique, you’re probably familiar with The Skinny Confidential. The bubblegum pink brand specializes in designing state-of-the-art skincare tools, like its sturdy all-aluminum ice roller, dermaplaner, along with its newest addition to the family, the Pink Balls facial massager. Made to be the perfect complement to the ice roller, the massager took four years to come to fruition as founder Lauryn Evarts Bosstick not only wanted it to be functional but beautiful enough to display.

As someone whose skincare cabinet is fully stocked, I was more than excited to try the brand’s range of products but was admittedly skeptical as I’m wary of any company that labels itself as “skinny” anything. After using both the ice roller and facial massager, neither are far out of reach. The aluminum ice roller is the best one I’ve ever used and is my go-to for de-stressing, whereas the facial massager grips and glides against my face, contouring and relaxing my muscles effectively.

Running the hyper-feminine brand is the unsurprisingly sharp Bosstick, who also manages The Skinny Confidential’s blog and podcast. Bosstick’s dissatisfaction with her college experience led her to become the entrepreneur she is today as she reveals that she found it to be “an utter waste of time.” Starting The Skinny Confidential in college, she launched the website “while bartending, going to school full time, teaching barre and Pilates and not making a single dime.”

Determined to create an empowered, inclusive community and provide them with the tools to take care of themselves, Bosstick uses her upbringing as a model. She shares, “With my community, it’s exactly like how my parents raised me. It’s a nonjudgmental space. We’ve had on everyone from transgender people to those who have been sex trafficked to others who have experienced cancer. For us, it’s all about taking the taboos out of all this stuff that we’re afraid to speak about. We’re a media outlet and our responsibility is to share people’s stories.”

An avid reader, the mother of two is intentional about the brand’s image, tapping into nostalgic Barbie doll boxes and defying sexist stereotypes in the boardroom. As a “blonde with huge fake tits,” people are often eager to put Bosstick in a box, suited to their limited notions, but specifically shapes her persona to invite a deeper look, knowing that others are immediately intrigued by the shiny façade. “You can look a certain way and be multifaceted. I’ve walked into a lot of board meetings to pitch my product line and I can tell you right away, the second I walk in wearing pink with blonde hair, big boobs, they wanna put me in a box and it actually ends up working in my favor. The brand is pink and flamboyant, but when you dig deeper, there are so many different layers to the brand and almost makes you question stereotypes,” Bosstick says.

The Skinny Confidential’s Pink Balls Facial Massager is available on the brand’s website, along with its wide array of highly effective and aesthetic skincare tools.
