The First-Ever Metaverse Drag Show Has Arrived

Start your (virtual) engines.

Meta is broadening the horizons of beloved Drag Race by presenting the very first mixed reality drag show, “Queens of the Metaverse.” Featuring iconic drag acts, Blu Hydrangea (winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race: U.K. vs. The World), Tia Kofi (Pop artist and star of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2) and Adam All (one of the world’s most well-known Drag Kings), the company’s latest venture seeks to unleash new possibilities in fashion design and collaboration.

Each renowned drag artist will debut a show-stopping look made by three promising LGBTQ+ British creatives, through VR, AR and avatar technologies. Nwora Emenike, a non-binary stylist, will be creating for Blue Hydrangea. Sal Mohammed, a gender-fluid NHS worker and life coach will design for Tia Kofi, and Christie Lau, a non-binary Central Saint Martins graduate, will be crafting for Adam All.

The headline drag acts and design partners will be able to conceptualize their bespoke looks by virtually exchanging creative briefs and mood boards through the “Horizon Workrooms” – Meta’s virtual workspace in which avatars can interact using the company’s VR Quest headsets. The digitally designed garments, then turned physical, will be revealed at an event in London hosted by Dominic Skinner and directed by Matt Timmiss, a London-based film director specialising in queer films and drag community narratives, in September.

With “Queens of the Metaverse,” Meta strives to free artists from the limitations that can exist in the physical world and to foster freedom of expression, inclusivity and visibility across creative spaces in the UK. “Creative communities are central to the development of the metaverse, ensuring that we are building a space for each and every one of us. The metaverse and its technologies will enable these creatives to take their imaginations further than they ever thought possible,” says Ineke Paulsen, Meta’s Director of EMEA Marketing, in a press release.

Stay tuned for the official release date.
