Daniel Lee Confirmed as Burberry's New Chief Creative Officer

Replacing Riccardo Tisci.

As rumored last month, Daniel Lee has officially been appointed as Burberry‘s new Chief Creative Officer, replacing Riccardo Tisci, who has helmed the British heritage brand since 2018.

Lee will be joining the fashion house on October 3, based at its London headquarters while reporting to the company’s new CEO Jonathan Akeroyd. His first collection will be unveiled at London Fashion Week in February 2023, making the brand’s latest Spring/Summer 2023 collection Tisci’s last. The designer is officially leaving the company at the end of this month.

Akeroyd said in a statement shared with Hypebae, “Daniel is an exceptional talent with a unique understanding of today’s luxury consumer and a strong record of commercial success, and his appointment reinforces the ambitions we have for Burberry. I am excited about working closely with him and I am confident he will have the impact we are aiming for in this next phase, supported by our talented and experienced teams.” Lee added that he, together with the Burberry team, “will write the exciting next chapter for this legendary British luxury brand” and that he is “very excited to be returning to London, a city that champions pioneering creativity and that continues to inspire me.”

Meanwhile, Tisci spoke of his time at the brand, “The chapter I was asked to write in its long story is one that I am incredibly proud of and one I have decided would culminate with my show on Monday. I thrived to continue a legacy of innovation, and consistently championed for creativity and diversity, in order to always keep Burberry moving forward. I want to thank my teams, past and present, and the army of collaborators and friends who helped me write a chapter that I hope will stay in Burberry’s future for years to come.”

Lee has previously worked at Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Donna Karan, and is most well-known for his time at Bottega Veneta, which he revived by bringing buzz to the blown-up Intrecciato weave as well as other bestselling accessories.

Stay tuned for Lee’s debut Burberry show and while you’re here, read what Lee’s appointment could potentially mean for Burberry.
