Fendi Invites NYC To Celebrate the Baguette Bag's 25th Anniversary

Fendi showcased its Resort 2023 collection at New York Fashion Week with a theatrical 25th Anniversary bash for its Baguette bag. Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997, the Baguette bag was popularized by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City when she exclaimed “It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette.” Now, Fendi has joined forces with Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co., SJP and Porter who all reinterpreted the Baguette in a multiplicity of styles and mediums.

Fendi’s Baguette design dimension appeared across a range of pieces including parkas, gloves, hats, skirts and sweaters combining silk satin, glossy leather and sequins fabrics, perfect for celebration. Of the 54 total looks, 10 were designed by Marc Jacobs, embodying larger than life silhouettes and exaggerated dimensions. From parachute train skirts, opera capes and recycled fur hats, the accessories and clothing came in muted white hues paired with bright neons inspired by safety vests from New York City streets.

Tiffany & Co.’s direction for the Baguette imagines the bag in a regal format with sterling silver, enamel, croco, white gold and diamonds. The standout style from Tiffany & Co. saw the Baguette made entirely from sterling silver and was crafted by hand over a four month period. Finally, Japanese brand Porter’s rendition of the Baguette takes a masculine and lightweight turn in a next-gen display of utility and function.

Alongside SJP, the celebration was attended by a star studded lineup, including Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Grace Jones, Winnie Harlow, Adwoa Aboah, Chloe Bailey and Euphoria‘s Maude Apatow.

With anniversaries come heritage, but the collection showcase was far from traditional. “It’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses,” stated Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Womenswear, Fendi in a press release.
