The Golden Globes Nominations Are In, Here's the Conversation So Far
Who got snubbed, who won big and are they getting it right?
To kick off awards season, the Golden Globes nominations are in. The 83rd edition of the film and television honors is due to take place in Los Angeles on January 11, 2026, so here’s a taste of what to expect. Big productions were snubbed, some hot-topic celebs were side-stepped but a few favorites still won big.
Most notably, Sydney Sweeney was not awarded for any acting nominations this year, despite her performance as boxer Christy Martin in Christy receiving a standing ovation at the Toronto Film Festival. Sweeney’s acting was perhaps overshadowed by the recent media controversy surrounding her polarizing American Eagle ad, and then by her subsequent failure to comment on it when given the chance in an interview. The biopic then bombed at the box office.
One Battle After Another leads the pack with nine nominations and individual award success for its stars, Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor and Sean Penn. Marty Supreme and Sinners were also shortlisted, with Hollywood heavyweights Timothée Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan nominated. With the promo for Marty Supreme taking over all of our social feeds and that jacket appearing on a crew of random celebs, it’s nice to know that the film is living up to its hype so far.

Several blockbusters, including Avatar: Fire & Ash and Wicked: For Good, were also in the running, but while the latter shattered box office records, it was snubbed for many nominations. The sequel was not included in the Best Musical or Comedy category or Best Picture. However, it was nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, alongside two best acting nods for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo (now making her the first black woman in Golden Globes history to be nominated for best actress twice), and two nominations for the film’s original songs. It makes sense that it’s harder for a sequel to achieve highly when it has so much to live up to, especially given that the decision to break up a musical into two parts was fairly unusual.
Despite Frankenstein receiving mixed audience reviews, the film was nominated for Best Drama, with Jacob Elordi (who plays the monster) also nominated for Best Supporting Actor. In the TV categories, Apple TV’s Severance leads alongside Emmy-winning medical drama The Pitt and hit comedy Hacks.
These first nods are sure to set the tone for the rest of the season, so tune in for the January ceremony.
In other news, LISA of Blackpink is set to star in Netflix’s new action thriller.
