Karen Walker Goes Full-On Metal for 2016 Fall/Winter Collection

Inspired by the famous works of Surrealist photographer Man Ray.

Although typically known for her vibrant and quirky designs, Karen Walker’s latest eyewear collection goes in a different route entirely, opting for sleek metal frames instead. As the designer’s first-ever fully metal collection, the pieces play with a significant focus on negative space. As a longtime admirer of Surrealist photographer Man Ray, Walker hones his unmistakable aesthetic into her new eyewear. “Man Ray’s solarized nudes and portraits have always been amongst my most loved of his works,” she explains. “The solarization’s otherworldly effect, full of unnaturally brilliant whites and outlines so dark that they look etched, is compelling and fascinating.”

Further divulging why she decided to stray from her usual combination of colorful tones and silhouettes from earlier seasons, Walker says, “We altered our focus this season with new styles that expose their intrinsic architecture and create a sense of illusion, almost as if the frames float on the face and are created using only metals and metallic colors.” The line introduces four new styles that reinterpret Walker’s classic designs, including her signature arrow motif. Each style is available in three colorways – gold, silver and metallic navy – and will retail for $365 USD each. You can shop the new 2016 fall/winter range now at karenwalker.com.
