The first trailer for Marvel’s Captain Marvel has just dropped. Brie Larson who plays the lead role of Captain Marvel also known as Carol Danvers falls to the earth on top of a ’90s Blockbuster video store. She appears alongside Samuel L. Jackson‘s character Nick Fury. In the beginning of the clip upon meeting Larson, he tells her: “I know a renegade soldier when I see one. It never occurred to me that one might come from above.” She is after all slated to be the last standing person who can defeat Thanos.
Throughout the trailer which is made up of flashbacks of her life, she speaks a bit about her past: “Space invasion, big car chase — truth be told, I was ready to hang it up until I met you today.”
Despite her current circumstances, it’s important to note that Danvers received her superpowers during an explosion while she was serving in the United States Air Force. The explosion led to the fusion of her DNA with an alien’s DNA. She speaks about having lapses of memory following the explosion incident.
According to Variety Captain Marvel is the first Marvel movie to star a “solo female superhero.” Notably it is written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, Marvel’s first female director. The film is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
