Watch Justine Skye's Emotionally Riveting Video for Her Latest Single "Build"
Highlighting an important message.
Justine Skye unveils her latest music video for her newest single, “Build.” Featuring emerging R&B artist Arin Ray, the track sheds light on the woes women experience while in relationships filled with violence. Throughout the clip, Skye and numerous women are joined by budding Grown-ish actor Da’Vinchi.
The lyrics also focus on growing and understanding that building the perfect mate is at times unattainable. At one point in the visual, Skye looks in the mirror at herself in tears. Towards the end, an array of different women are shown right before she walks out of a room which points to her choosing herself over the tumultuous relationships shown in the clip.
The visual drops just in time for the closure of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In an Instagram post previewing the new video, Skye shares her own story of domestic abuse. The caption reads:
“Recently I’ve had one of the scariest/heart breaking experiences in my life and it’s still hard for me to talk about. I felt stupid, angry, depressed.. blamed myself. Trying to figure out how someone who claimed they loved me so much could find such evil within themselves to hurt me mentally and physically. Learned a lot about the people I chose to call my ‘friends’.. and about myself. I was one of those people who would be like ‘No man would ever put their hands on me! .. blah blah blah..’ We all think we know what we’d do until it’s happening to you. Now, I’m not looking for sympathy and never thought this would be part of the story I’d be telling of my self.. unfortunately it is, but I won’t let it be what defines me.”
