G-Dragon Has Begun His Korean Military Service & Fans Are Already Causing Trouble
The K-pop star is off to a rocky start.
South Korea requires male citizens from the ages of 18 and 35 to serve in the military for two years. The obligation doesn’t escape anyone, not even K-pop sensation G-Dragon of Big Bang.
G-Dragon began his mandatory service on February 27, and his presence has already disturbed his infantry. Eager fans have been flooding the unit with letters which has resulted in a shut down of the battalion’s server. His management company had to step in and alert his fans of the inconvenience via social media:
“G-Dragon is facing difficulties with fans sending too many letters to the unit. Emails have to be printed on paper to be distributed, but ink and A4 paper in the battalion have run out and G-Dragon feels sorry for his fellow soldiers there. G-Dragon is thankful for his fans’ concern over his military duty. At the same time, he feels sorry he can’t read all the letters sent to him. But again, please consider the tricky situation G-Dragon faces.”
The end of his five-week training is coming to an end so things will return to normal soon for his division. Straits Times also reports that bandmates Taeyang and Daesung have also begun their military service as well. Let’s hope their fans don’t do the same.
