Cardi B Walks the Runway at Balenciaga's Fall 2024 Show

Presented as a love letter to Los Angeles.

Balenciaga held an off-schedule runway show in Los Angeles this weekend, presenting its Fall 2024 collection to the world. Marking the fashion house’s first show in the city, the collection acted as a love letter to LA, parading its familiar archetypes down the runway in a playful, tongue-in-cheek approach.

Set in clear view of the famed Hollywood sign, the show featured a soundtrack scored by BFRND, alongside a voiceover from Demna which aimed to describe his unique interpretation of Los Angeles fashion. Following on from the Spring/Summer 2024 collection which was presented in Paris this year, the collection featured athleisure-inspired silhouettes, offering a Balenciaga take on the classic gym, running and yoga uniforms.

Seemingly inspired by Paris Hilton, one of the guests of honor at last season’s show, the runway welcomed a bright pink velour tracksuit paired with matching knee-high pink boots, alongside a series of bra tops, leggings, shorts and sweatshirts. As with the majority of Demna’s shows, the casual looks were followed by a selection of vibrant evening gowns, one of which was modelled by Cardi B — to much of the audience’s surprise.

Elsewhere, the collection continued SS24’s approach to accessories, featuring more oversized footwear, hotel slippers and shopper totes. This season, Balenciaga debuted the new croc Rodeo Bag and 10XL Sneaker, plus new collaborations with Jacob & Co. and Erewhon, followed by an XL size of the Le Cagole Tote.

Given that Demna had previously spoken about a laser focus on clothing moving forward (as opposed to celebrity and entertainment) Cardi’s appearance, alongside some of the LA tropes presented on the runway resulted in mixed reviews. That said, a number of celebrity guests attended the show, including Kim Kardashian, Brooklyn Beckham, Cole Sprouse, Lisa Rinna and Nicole Kidman — who has just been announced as the house’s new ambassador.

Take a look at the collection above and head to Balenciaga’s website for a closer look at some of the newly released pieces.
