'The Mother & The Weaver' Exhibition Explores the Multifaceted Experience of Motherhood
Alongside love, loss and sexuality.
An all-new exhibition at Foundling Museum is set to explore the multifaceted experience of both motherhood and womanhood, highlighting themes around childhood, love, loss, sexuality and identity.
Titled The Mother & The Weaver, the unique showcase marks the museum’s first foray into multi-space exhibits, aiming to offer a different experience for frequent guests of the space. Comprising over 40 modern and contemporary works from the museum’s collection, the exhibition is set to showcase a multitude of female artists, including Rita Ackermann, Ida Applebroog, Louise Bourgeois, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Marlene Dumas, Sonia Gomes and more.
Hoping to remind guests about the specific origins of Foundling through the unique and distinctive lens of the artists, the exhibition features the largest collection of everyday textiles from the 18th century (including five thousand fabric scraps from the Hospital’s archives, left by mothers.)
Take a look at some of the works on display above, and head to Foundling Museum’s website to find out more about the exhibition, opening this September.
