Louis Vuitton's FW24 Celebrates Ten Years In The Making

Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière serves a masterclass in nostalgia.

As futuristic as the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2024 showcase may have seemed, at its core, it was about nostalgia. The show marked a decade for Nicolas Ghesquière as the women’s creative director of the house and the collection was a recall to his past works.

Staged at the Louvre, the show and was designed around lit up steel balls. In the middle of the venue was a massive ball, with other small ones surrounding it, connected by cords. The lights on the balls changed in sync with the beat of the runway soundtrack and drones with large lights flew over seats.

The season’s pieces were defined by cool color palettes, sharp and boxy silhouettes and unexpected embellishments. Periwinkle and gold catch the eye as the collection’s pops of color. Two stand out dresses featuring illustrations of the iconic Louis Vuitton travel bags leave a mark, too, and remind viewers of the travel-focus Ghesquière planted within the brand.

Tassels are layered and hanging off the edges of sleeves and sequins are everywhere- across the eyes, on bags and in one case- very elegantly clad all over leggings. Fur gloves that resemble bear paws line the hands of models and are presented in a bright periwinkle, black and burnt orange. All in all, embellishments get the ultimate upgrade at Louis Vuitton.

In a full circle moment, Ghesquière left attendees with notes on their seats, thanking them for their part in his journey and celebrating all that still awaits him. 10 years ago, at his debut show, he penned a similar letter, gushing about the joy of a new adventure.
