Sloane Stephens Uses These 5 Products On and Off the Court
We speak to the tennis star on her pre-match rituals, her exciting new brand and her favorite beauty buys.
In the world of professional sports, few athletes balance high performance, personal style and fierce determination like Sloane Stephens. Known for her incredible athletic skills on the tennis court, the trailblazing Stephens has made her mark in both her athletic career and entrepreneurial ventures. As the demand for womens’ sports grows and their long-deserved recognization is finally on display, this athlete is journeying into another space — the beauty industry.
Most recently, she’s channeled her energy into a new project, Doc & Glo, a new line of deodorants designed to keep you fresh and confident on and off the court. Clean and aluminum-free, both the Hustle Deodorizing Body Mist and the Game-Changing Deodorant are built to neutralize odor from the body and preventing bacteria that makes you smell from coming back to haunt you.
Ahead, the tennis star tells Hypebae about her pre-match rituals, her exciting new brand and her favorite sports-centric beauty buys.
On the influences that shaped her love for tennis
I always remind parents and coaches that having a positive introduction to the sport is the most important thing before ever thinking about proper technique or playing matches. I had such a great first tennis experience with welcoming and engaging coaches. Those early interactions kept me coming back because I looked forward to the sessions and felt good about myself. We look to create this same atmosphere with the 10,000 kids we work with each year through the Sloane Stephens Foundation — it has to be fun and fulfilling.
On winning the US Open
Winning the US Open was incredible and will always be one of my career highlights. As an American, it was extra special to win a Grand Slam on home soil in front of so many of my family and friends. I was away from the sport for several months in 2017, recovering from a career-threatening foot injury and surgery, so coming back at Wimbledon and being healthy for the US Open Series was such a win already.
On how she stays motivated
I genuinely love what I do and feel really fortunate to go out every day and give it my best. That doesn’t mean every day is easy or fun, but it always brings me back to my “why.” I’m also trying to enjoy the tour life, because I know it isn’t forever. I’ve started playing tournaments in new cities where I haven’t traveled before and doing more tourist-y things in the cities that I’ve visited 15+ times. It gives me so much gratitude for this life I have and keeps me inspired and energized.
On inspiring the next generation of athletes
I work hard to show up in new spaces and try to make the pathways a bit clearer for the next generation. I’m a big believer in the power of representation—if you can see it, you can believe it can be for you. I hope I’m remembered in the sport as a friendly face, confidant and as an advocate—whether it’s pushing for player protections for egg retrievals like I’ve done with Kindbody, launching a task force with the Vice President at The White House to combat online harassment or working to create a more diverse player base through the Sloane Stephens Foundation, showing up is really important to me.
On her pre-match rituals
Tennis is tricky because you rarely have an exact match start time unless you’re first on the schedule for a particular session. Because of that uncertainty, you have to be really resilient and flexible with the pre-match routine because you could be playing in 30 minutes or in six hours. I focus on making sure I’ve had enough to eat so I’m fueled for the match, resting when I can, and having a good playlist to pass the time.
On the portrayal of female athletes in media
We are coming off of an amazing Olympics cycle where I feel like the women really crushed it. It’s refreshing to see more stories and narratives promoting how multi-faceted women are and how we can find genuine friendships and camaraderie while still being tough competitors. It doesn’t need to be “this or that,” “either or.” It’s great to see women being championed and celebrated on and off the court for bringing their full selves to the table.
On launching Doc & Glo
Building Doc & Glo over the past four years has been quite the journey! I’ve been involved in every single step of this business from working with the lab on custom formulations, to the design studio on custom packaging, to retailer pitches and fulfillment and logistics. What I’ve learned and embraced is that everyone is a novice until they’re not. You have to just start and be very open to asking questions and learning, but ultimately trusting your gut as the founder. I’m so proud of what we’ve created and can’t wait for people to try the products for themselves.
On Doc & Glo products
My brand Doc & Glo was created to keep myself fresh for a life lived in constant motion. I’ve been testing the products for almost four years in every single match and feel super confident when I use them. I can walk on court and give a maximum effort because I trust that my deodorant is fighting odor and not leaving a white cast when I lift my arms to serve. When I walk off-court, I immediately reach for our deodorizing mist before heading to press for an instant refresh on-the-go.

From her own deodorant to Neutrogena sunscreen, Stephens lets us know exactly what she’s using on and off the court.
Doc & Glo No. 3161 Game Changing Deodorant
This deodorant is my hero product and the first thing I perfected when building Doc & Glo. Not only is it clean and aluminum-free, but the mandelic and lactic acids help percent discoloration, which helps me feel confident when I’m lifting my arms to serve.

TonyMoly Moisture Boost Cooling Hydrogel Eye Patches
I love eye patches and always keep at least one container in my fridge or hotel mini fridge. I love starting the day with a cool eye mask to help reduce puffiness and make me feel like I had a full, refreshing sleep, but also love putting them on at night to recover from a long day as I’m catching up on emails.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum
I love having a signature scent, it immediately grounds me into comforting memories. A few spritzes help me feel pulled together even when I’ve been training all day or am coming off a red-eye.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen SPF70
My tried and true sunscreen! It doesn’t get in my eyes and stays on through sweat, towel-offs, etc. If I’m in Europe for clay court season or away from home for a long time, I’ll have my family and friends bring a few bottles in their luggage so I’m always stocked up.
