How Karol G Transformed Into Rapunzel for Her "Única" Music Video

In under 24 hours, hairstylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez dreamed up a custom, 30-foot wig for Karol G‘s “Única” music video — transforming the Colombian star into a modern day Rapunzel. For the look, Ramirez and his team fused their editorial beauty influences and technical skill to bring the vision to life, leaving mere hours to spare before the shoot.
Although the hairstylist has dabbled in everything from Tim Burton-esque looks for Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday press tour to Demi Lovato’s wedding day Hollywood waves, Ramirez says that Karol G’s “Única” hair is unlike anything he’s done before. “This might be one of the most ambitious beauty creations of my career,” he tells Hypebae.
In order to engineer the custom wig, Ramirez required the support of three assistants along with 18 hours of nonstop work. Subsequently, the team turned two 42-inch wigs into the foundation of the Rapunzel look. Utilizing L’Oréal Professionnel Majirel Color to achieve Karol G’s signature blonde and Kérastase Gloss Absolu Anti-Frizz Glaze Milk and Gloss Drops to add shine, the final result was 30-feet of hair which the hairstylist calls “Rapunzel-like glamour, a true test of artistry, innovation and creative fearlessness.”
