Kim Petras is Awe Inspired's "Queen of the Fairies"

The pop icon on reclaiming her power and femininity — and doing so while bedazzled in jewels.

Awe Inspired has always been about uplifting and empowering its wearers. Lifelong jeweler Jill Johnson and her son started the brand in 2018 after she beat cancer for the third time, proving that true strength and resilience come from within. That aura of power is something that Johnson would love all of her wearers to embody — it’s already within them, but putting on a sparkling Awe Inspired piece helps it shine through just a bit more.

Continuing to celebrate those who live fiercely in their power, for the brand’s fifth annual Pride campaign and collection, they’ve teamed up with a true queen — someone who parades her differences defiantly and isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd. Pop icon Kim Petras is glamorous to the max, self-created and unapologetically herself. She embodies everything Awe Inspired believes in, so it only made sense to grant her the highest of honors as Queen of the Fairies.

“Fairycore” may be this summer’s evolution of “cottagecore” and other delicate, hyperfeminine aesthetics, but the word fairy has typically been a derogatory, targeted at the queer community. It’s a slur that’s been previously weaponized, but through this campaign, Awe Inspired and Queen Kim are taking it back. Reclaiming the slur, Petras converts it into something rebellious and beautiful. She isn’t afraid to showcase her own sense of femme self-expression, but the collection also highlights the darker parts of her femininity through mystical motifs.

“I admire how Awe Inspired uplifts powerful, iconic energy and celebrates identity in such a meaningful way,” Petras told Hypebae. “The shoot itself was magical, we were up in the mountains in Topanga and it was super hot, but a lot of fun showcasing the collection and mixing and matching all the different pieces with my looks!”

The Queen of the Fairies collection features rings, brooches, necklaces and charms crafted from 14k gold vermeil and sterling silver, channeling an ethereal elegance through botanical elements, flamboyant winged silhouettes and intricate details inspired by insects. Dragonflies, beetles and flora decorate each bauble, making a magical statement within any look. The popstar’s personal favorites are the Dragonfly Broach and the Queen of the Fairies Necklace.

For each Fairy Coin Necklace sold, $10 will be donated to GLSEN. The organization helps foster safe and inclusive schools for LGBTQ+ youth across the country, so they can be emboldened to live in their power, just like the pop star. Kim Petras joins other past Pride campaign stars and queer legends, including Indya Moore and Zane Philips. Leading as examples, these powerful figures show the next generation that they are deserving of support and acceptance not only in June, but every single day beyond Pride Month.

“I’ve had to fight for my seat at the table and I want to show that you can be who you are unapologetically and still live your dream. I’m always trying to push boundaries and create something that feels new and fresh,” Petras added.

“That message is at the heart of everything I do. My music has always been about creating escape and euphoria, but also about strength. Taking power back means owning your pain, your joy, your fantasy and that’s exactly what I try to bring to every song and every performance,” she concluded.
