How Kristine Froseth Is Using Her Beauty Routine to Feel Less Invisible
“At this stage, I am less worried about what others think.”
Kristine Froseth‘s career started after a catwalk audition at her local mall in Norway — and now, the American-born actor and model has done everything from gracing the cover of Vogue Scandinavia to starring in the TV adaption of John Green‘s novel Looking for Alaska. Six years after the breakout role, Froseth is finally learning how to tune out all of the background noise.
Through all of her acting endeavors, Froseth has remained interested in roles that emphasize the human condition. The Buccaneers actor says she’s especially drawn to projects that allow her to see the world in a new way — even if that means being forced out of her comfort zone. “I’ve only relied on my instincts for so long, so it’s exciting to try acting with new ways of experiencing and unfolding of the characters,” she tells Hypebae. With each new project that comes her way, Froseth is striving to challenge herself in every way possible.
For this reason, she doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon — and this year, the actor has made great strides in her career. This March, she worked on her first-ever play, All Nighter — alongside Bottoms actor Havana Rose Liu and The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Alyah Chanelle Scott. The play, which follows a group of college girlfriends in 2014, is Froseth’s bread and butter — with themes of existentialism and addiction hidden in plain sight. As she looks forward to her future projects, Froseth can’t help but reflect on how her self image has evolved alongside her professional career.

Although she considers herself a confident person today, the modeling industry once warped Froseth’s self-esteem. Because of this, she’s had a conflicting relationship with beauty in the past. “I wanted to be invisible for so long. I became obsessed with playing it safe and pleasing others — rather than checking in with myself, and how I was feeling and wanted to show up in the world,” the actor says.
Being a model once made Froseth feel like there was a right and wrong way to be beautiful. But now, she refuses to allow outside opinions to shape the way she perceives herself. “Now I feel confident in my skin, and [I'm] less ashamed or embarrassed to express my current state of being through fashion and makeup,” she says.
When it comes to makeup, Froseth is no longer controlled by her fear of standing out, “I love to explore with colors, and graphic liners in particular. [I want] to be bold and truthful to who I am now.” After attempting to fade into the background for so long, Froseth’s experimental beauty phase demonstrates how far she’s come — and all the things she’s yet to accomplish.
Even though the actor wasn’t always as invested in makeup as she is now, her interest in skincare has remained constant. As a child, Froseth’s mother and grandmother stressed the importance of taking care of you skin. So today, she relies on her skincare routine to unwind and center herself amid her busy schedule. “I’ve always been obsessed with taking care of my skin. I absolutely love a self-care day, and I think it’s a lovely way to be with yourself and treat yourself,” she says.
