Find out why this editor claims this is one of her most comfortable sneakers to date.
A few years back, I tried on a pair of the Nike Air Max Plus for the first time. Because the specific colorway that I wanted to cop wasn’t available in women’s sizes, I could only slip on a pair of the men’s shoes. Unfortunately, the creps looked like boats on my feet and I haven’t been particularly interested in trying them ever since. Fast forward to the present and the Air Max Plus silhouette is now one of the favorite sneakers in my rotation. I recently got a chance to try out the (literally) wavy silhouette and I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are, as well as what a remarkable difference the women’s sizing makes. Read on to find out why you should add the AM Plus to your sneaker lineup.

THE SHOE: Nike Air Max Plus LX Velvet “Gunsmoke”
OUR REVIEW: I recently brought this pair of the Air Max Plus’s with me on vacation, during which I would sometimes walk a surplus of 20,000 steps. Even so, I still found them to be shockingly comfortable. The luxe appearance of the sneakers made it easy for me to pair them with both trousers and joggers alike. The colorway also strikes a perfect balance between being both a staple and a standout selection, thanks to its velvet construction that creates a sheen-like appearance. The “Gunsmoke” hue is unique for its coloration that almost borders on pastel purple but if you’re looking for something even more rosey, the sneaker also comes in “Particle Rose” and “Dusty Peach.”
Colors aside, however, the element that stands out the most to me is the shoe’s wearability. The insole is almost gel-like, which makes it incomparably comfortable. It will be important to note, though, that I would highly recommend you going a full size up. When I tried on the sneaker true to my typical size, I found my foot to be quite cramped due to the narrow build of the shoe – going up a size made the sneaker infinitely more well-fitted. Although I have little to complain about the shoe, the one thing that I also do notice is that the tongues on both feet are not secured that well and so they tend to skew dramatically to the side. However, there’s not too much that can be done to remedy this and to be honest, it’s a small demerit for an otherwise A-plus shoe.
VERDICT: COP
BUY: You can pick up a pair of the Nike Air Max LX Velvet “Gunsmoke” now at select stockists such as Foot Locker, where it retails for $160 USD.
