adidas' New AM4LA Is Made With Parley Ocean Plastic®
A sustainable high-performance runner.
adidas has unveiled the SPEEDFACTORY’s first high-performance running shoe — the AM4LA. This model is crafted from Parley Ocean Plastic® that was picked up from coastal areas before entering the water.
The ecologically-conscious material is formed into a yarn that covers the upper of the blue runner. The SPEEDFACTORY helped bring the silhouette to life through its unique process of fit programming and digitally mapping tension patches onto the shoe. A mix of Primeknit and BOOST technology ensures that that athletes will be able to have a comfortable workout experience. Vice president of design for adidas Running Ben Harath shares the journey to creating the sustainable sneaker:
“The AM4LA shoe demonstrates the potential and flexibility of adidas SPEEDFACTORY to evolve and integrate new materials and technology that deliver progress towards solutions to current and new challenges. With AM4LA, we set out to reexamine and change our traditional ways of design and production. We want to make sure that we not only deliver the best for our athlete, but also do what is best for our planet. By leveraging SPEEDFACTORY’s digital production capabilities, integrating Parley Ocean Plastic® into it, and pushing our designers’ creative boundaries, we have successfully created a high performance running shoe while simultaneously reducing waste and unnecessary by-products.”
Shoppers will be able to pick up their very own pairs at the adidas Santa Monica store and select Consortium retails on May 25. A general release is scheduled for June 2. The $200 USD shoe will stock online also for those abroad.
