HYPEBAE 101: How to Style Sundresses & Sneakers Like Rihanna
The ultimate cozy fit.
Sundresses and sneakers are the ultimate streetwear pair. All cozy girls know that a good dress can rescue you from a style disaster giving off an effortless summer look. Rihanna recently stepped out in a layered, floor-length dress that she styled with Fenty PUMA‘s Avid in “Vanilla.” The Bajan pop star twirled in the courtyard of Cuban cathedral using Off-White™’s straw hat as her statement accessory. The short Instagram clip inspired us to create our own short guide to sporting sundresses and kicks.
We selected clothing from Gucci and 3.1 Phillip Lim to match up with the hottest sneakers of the season. Read on to get some late summer inspiration.
Simple Dress, Bold Kicks
3.1 Phillip Lim‘s cotton-poplin midi dress arrives in all-white with an asymmetrical bubble hem. The strappy frock is both classic and whimsical which is why it’s best to style it with a bold pair of kicks. adidas Originals’ newest fall colorway of the Falcon adds just the right amount of color to this look. Together the items are balanced and create a versatile summer profile.
No matter the weather, an all-black look is always appropriate. adidas‘ sporty dress is crafted from a cotton cable knit that allows air flow and breathability. The A-line dress is accented with striped cuffs and a neckline to match. Balenciaga‘s yellow Speed Trainer adds a neon pop the outfit without taking away from the sleek theme.
The Chunkier the Shoe, the Closer to Heaven
Sometimes we run into a small snag when throwing on a midi or floor-length dress. Depending on height, these items usually drag on the floor creating premature wearing that can be avoided. A stunning piece like Ann Demeulemeester’s silk dress doesn’t deserve to be ruined before its time. Naked Wolfe‘s Track sneaker provides just the right amount of lift to physically elevate the hem and adds some edge.
It’s impossible to resist a good slip dress. Gucci’s mid-length option is detailed with white lace that runs down into the bottom of the garment. Gucci’s text tag is embroidered into the waistline for the true logo lovers. To get a good lift, we selected Nike‘s Air Force 1 Jester XX in “Triple White.” The reworked sneaker comes equipped with a super chunky midsole that matches the rest of the monochrome sneaker.
