Martine Rose is Balenciaga's New Creative Director
The London-based designer is set to take the reins at the Parisian fashion house, succeeding Pierpaolo Piccioli.
In a major shake-up for the fashion world, Martine Rose has officially been named the new creative director of Balenciaga. The British-Jamaican designer will take over from Pierpaolo Piccioli, effective November 16, marking a new chapter for the Parisian luxury house.
Best known for her namesake London label, founded in 2007, Rose has built a cult following for her unconventional approach to menswear, blending sharp tailoring, sportswear and everyday staples with references to underground British subcultures. Drawing inspiration from London’s football, rave, house music and reggae scenes, her work has consistently challenged traditional ideas of what fashion can look like.
The appointment also marks something of a homecoming. Rose previously worked alongside former Balenciaga creative director Demna, helping shape the house’s menswear during his tenure. Her arrival signals a potential return to the brand’s more culturally driven, boundary-pushing direction.
Beyond the creative shift, Rose’s appointment is also a significant moment for representation, making her only the second Black woman to lead a major European fashion house. With her eye for subculture and unconventional silhouettes, we’re already curious to see what she’ll bring to Balenciaga.
