Hayao Miyazaki's 'How Do You Live?' Will Be the First Ghibli Film Released in IMAX
In theaters in Japan on July 14.
The highly anticipated movie is Miyazaki’s first film in a decade. This time around, the inimitable and beloved animator, who is now 82, collaborated with Toshio Suzuki, releasing the film without trailers or promotional materials as Suzuki shared, “Deep down, I think this is what moviegoers latently desire.”
Loosely based on Japanese author Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1973 novel of the same title, the plot focuses on the emotional journey of a boy in the aftermath of his father’s death. Studio Ghibli has described the film as “a grand fantasy,” hinting at Miyazaki’s enchanting visual work and storytelling.
