For 2018, Rick Owens has taken on the ultimate challenge. The Paris-based designer will be transforming the Birkenstock sandal from pedestrian to high fashion. The pony hair sandal will be joined by two other silhouettes that will be constructed from felt and full-grain leather.
The partnership will launch in tandem with Birkenstock’s traveling pop-up series. On April 17, the installation will set-up shop at Rick Owens’ Los Angeles store where ready-to-wear, accessories and furniture will also be available.
