Lorde Calls out Kanye West & Kid Cudi for "Stealing" Her Stage Design at Camp Flog Gnaw
“Don’t steal — not from women or anyone else.”
Even if you didn’t make it to Camp Flog Gnaw to watch Kanye West and Kid Cudi perform in person, you’ll perhaps have seen the duo’s stage design at the Tyler, the Creator-hosted carnival somewhere on social media. On Sunday (November 11), the two hip-hop artists hit the stage together to make their live debut as Kids See Ghosts. As captured in numerous Instagram photos and videos, the duo delivered their set in a massive, suspending glass box against colorful visuals and flame effects.
The stage design has attracted not only the attention of fans, but it has also caught that of Lorde, who took to Instagram on Monday to call out Kanye and his collaborator for copying her idea. In a series of Instagram Stories, the singer points out the similarities between Kids See Ghosts’ stage and hers from her Melodrama tour earlier this year, which also featured a rectangular glass box hanging in the air.
“I’m proud of the work I do and it’s flattering when other artist feel inspired by it, to the extent that they choose to try it on themselves,” Lorde writes in one of her posts, implying that she believes the rappers took inspiration from her concert. “But don’t steal — not from women or anyone else — not in 2018 or ever.”
