The Coolest Places to Visit in Belgrade, Serbia According to Film Director Marcella Zanki
An insider travel guide to “the new Berlin.”
Often dubbed as “the new Berlin,” Belgrade is probably one of the most unique travel destinations you’ll ever experience. With the clash of its tumultuous history and its new wave of youth culture, the Serbian capital easily appeals to tourists who’re interested in architecture, fashion, as well as dining and nightlife. For the latest installment of our city guide series, we’ve tapped Croatian film director Marcella Zanki, who fondly describes Belgrade as her “second hometown,” to show us all of the cool places that one should check out when exploring the city.
Offering a taste of Belgrade’s stirring energy and its creative scene, our video highlights a number of local fashion designers and retailers including handbag label RUKSAG, chic womenswear brand Jovana Markovic and ZLA Shtek, a store that sells its own line of streetwear alongside a range of products for specialized smoking.
For those who travel to eat, Zanki recommends Bistro Grad Hometown Food, the ideal restaurant to go to for authentic, grandma-style Serbian dishes. Traditional cuisine aside, she’s also shown us how the locals party by taking us to 20/44 and Drugstore, two of the most-loved night clubs in Belgrade.
