Demna Gvasalia offers his latest take on logomania.
Fresh off his recent win at the Fashion Awards 2018, where Demna Gvasalia took home the award for “Accessories Designer of the Year” for Balenciaga, the visionary designer now returns with his latest Spring 2019 collection. For the forthcoming season, the fashion house begins to delve deeper into a new form of creative expression for both Balenciaga Women and Men. Taking cues from the brand’s Winter 2018 runway show, in which high-tech 3D molded tailoring was integrated into multi-fused garments, Gvasalia continues to push the boundaries of his design repertoire.
For the latest offering, the designer introduces truly unique silhouettes. Showcasing all-new ways of contrasting formal jackets and coats with shrunk-cut shirts that open at the neck, the styling of the program once again exhibits a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of contemporary fashion. Other highlights from the collection include bootcut jeans and chiselled black leather shoes for men, as well as tweed checked coats and knitted thigh-high boots for women. As apparent in both ranges, alt-modern cuts come front and center.
Once again, Gvasalia also continues to play with the digitally fuelled obsession with logos and branding. Interpreting modern signatures, symbols and brand graphics, the latest offering also includes a multinational all-over print dress that showcases the LGBTQ+ rainbow, as well as a shopping bag that is emblazoned with the global insignia for Gender Equality.
You can view images from the Spring 2019 lookbook in the gallery above. The collection will be available this weekend from December 15 in-store at Balenciaga Philippines.
