HYPEBAE 101: How to Add Plaid to Your Spring Wardrobe
It’s the new black.
Plaid has made a strong comeback this season and cozy girls clearly love it. The crisscross lines add an angular perspective to a look and can be worn with just about anything. With the recent comeback of Burberry we’ve seen its own tartan pattern being worn by celebrities and influencers all throughout Fashion Month. For some, wearing the trend can be intimidating because it stands out but ladies should definitely think about embracing it.
For minimalists and maximalists alike, we’ve rounded up a few plaid items that can be seamlessly integrated into your wardrobe for the spring. Peep the roundup below.
Burberry
Burberry is the perfect brand to begin the search for plaid staples. The British label has stayed true to its roots creating wearable pieces with its own form of tan tartan. The muted neutral shade used is classic and instantly recognizable. Items like its calf-length coat and vintage tote are the perfect starter items for beginners.
COMME des GARÇONS

COMME des GARÇONS Black & Red Plaid Socks, available at SSENSE for $40 USD
Socks are an even subtler way of adding a plaid touch to a look. COMME des GARÇONS’ patterned socks add just the right amount of flair. These footies should be a worn with a clean shoe like Nike’s Air Force 1 in white or adidas’ Stan Smith to allow them to shine on their own.
Fear of God
Plaid pants will definitely make a statement. Above we see model and stylist Beija Valez on the streets of New York rocking Fear of God‘s tartan trousers. She tackles this outfit fearlessly throwing on a puffer jacket and fanny pack to seal the look. A plain white or black T-shirt can substitute her graphic tee and be just as stylish.
Opening Ceremony
Go bold or go home. Opening Ceremony’s suspender trousers and high-slit mini skirt are some of our favorite plaid items of the season. They add just enough edge and bring back memories of the early ’90s. Killer platform boots like Fenty PUMA’s new Scuba silhouette will instantly turn you from innocent to badass.
Y/Project

Y/Project Oversized Plaid Cropped Shirt, available at Opening Ceremony for $215 USD
Y/Project takes an off-beat approach to the trend creating a cropped button-up T-shirt with long, exaggerated sleeves. Instead of the traditional Scottish tartan pattern the brand downsizes the print to create a slimming illusion. Sailor buttons are trailed along the sleeve and front to complete the airy top. Those who want to take the trend once step further should consider this option.
