Cardi B Opens up About Her Rise to Stardom, Dating and Growing up in New York
The Bronx rapper sheds light on what’s the most important to her.
Just days after Cardi B‘s debut album Invasion of Privacy released and her pregnancy was announced publicly, GQ drops an exclusive interview shedding light on her personal life. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper digs deep and shares how her growing fame has affected her in addition to pinpointing why her and fiance, Migos‘ Offset, are the perfect match. Alongside the detailed interview, GQ also dropped a video in which Cardi secretly responded to fans via Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.
In detail, Cardi describes how she is naturally a shy, indecisive person who is extremely hard on herself. Her rise to stardom has been filled with notable moments like starring in VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York which came swiftly after she became Insta-famous. On her day-to-day grind, she shares:
“I’m the artist, but I don’t feel like I have a higher position than anybody that’s working for me. If I don’t want to work tomorrow, I cannot just stop working, because then, how’s other people gonna feed their family? It is a lot of pressure.”
Later on in the in-depth feature, she breaks down how her and rapper Offset met and began dating which ultimately led to their recent engagement. On their relationship, she says, “For a long time we was in love with each other but we didn’t really trust in each other. It was like a competition of who’s gonna hit each other up first. I don’t want to hit him up first; he will hit me up first.” Cardi alluded to Offset being a voice of reason she’s grateful for as she moves higher in her career. “He’s always making sure that I’m well taken care of.”
